stage on broadway nashville
9 to 5, which played 148 performances on Broadway before closing in September 2009, is based on the 1980 film comedy about women working in an oppressive office. Dolly Parton penned entirely new music and lyrics for the show -- except for, of course, the title song.
DeGarmo was last seen on stage as Sheila in the Tony-winning revival of Hair. She was also the runner-up on the third season of American Idol, and is still the youngest contestant to reach the top two during the show's nine seasons (Fantasia Barrino was the eventual winner that season). Undoubtedly, she should have no trouble holding her own during the tour. Although no other official casting announcements have been made, Dee Hoty is expected to play the role of Violet Newstead.
The tour is scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 20 at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville, TN.
